I'm very shy and not very socialable, I don't have many friends and not alot of people understand my humour. I'm trying to think of ways of meeting new people, what would you suggest?

You're going to have to put yourself out there, no-one likes being alone kid! Alot of people who aren't very confident in talking to others face-to-face prefer to surf the web, whether it be playing online video games, games where they create alter-egos to meet people such as Second Life or World of Warcraft. I wouldn't suggest you not be yourself though. There are online forums, find topics you are inteested in, sports, art, music. There are dating-websites like eHarmony or Match.com and well as social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
If you want to physically put yourself out there, think about joining a sports team, or if that's not your thing how about a book group. Put your name down for speed-dating. Search the web for upcoming things that are happening in your tiown/city and just go along.
If you're feeling really bave, why not start talking to a random when you're waiting those 10 mins for the bus or the next time you're out. What's the worst that could happen? They not chat back, who cares? You'll never have to see them again! If talking to someone is a big thing, simply just smile. A smile goes along way, makes you approachable!
